Class 5 Torque Tooling

A Class 5 torque tool, a torque analyser to check it at the surface, and an adaptor that lets it drive Class 4 interfaces. All three work to ISO 13628-8.

Class 5 Torque Tool, with torque and turns on display

The Class 5 Torque Tool is designed for all situations requiring ISO 13628-8 Class 5 intervention.

The system can be connected to the ROV’s hydraulic setup through an ISO 13628-8 dual port hot stab receptacle or bulkhead fittings, based on the operator’s preference. Additionally, a flexible housing allows the hot stab receptacle to be installed on either side of the tool, enhancing its adaptability.

Class 5 Torque Analyser, for surface use

The Class 5 Torque Analyser (CL5TA) consists of a calibrated torque transducer mounted within an anodised aluminium body. Applicable only for surface use, the CL5TA replicates the reaction geometry of the subsea interface which is compatible with ISO 13628-8 Class 5 torque receptacle with a 2″ square drive. The integral transducer is bi-directional, and has a nominal torque range of 0–7,000 Nm.

Power and signal connections to the transducer are via a harsh environment IP65 hand held meter, which is supplied with a suitable interconnecting cable. Clear torque values in clockwise and counter clockwise directions can be simply verified both before and after any given torque tool operation.

The CL5TA is also supplied with a support plate, which allows the tool to optionally be secured horizontally to a workbench and places the tool at the optimal angle to facilitate filling, bleeding and maintenance.

Torque Tool Adaptor, Class 5 to Class 4

The Blakemere Torque Tool Adaptor connects to and disconnects from the nose of a Class 5 Torque Tool, reducing the number of operational and contingency tools required for a given scope of work.

Adaptors can be tailored to interfaces that fall outside ISO configuration, including an over- or under-length actuator shaft that prevents mating with the Torque Tool nose, or a custom interface already manufactured and installed subsea.

The adaptor also allows Class 5 torque values to be applied to Class 4 interfaces where breakout demand exceeds their rated capacity, typically from over-torquing, marine growth or calcification.
