The Story Behind Blakemere
For more than twenty years, Blakemere and the companies it grew from have solved engineering problems for operators around the globe, with a team of experienced engineers who take the work from the first conversation to the deployed solution.

2003 – 2014
Velocious
Formed to serve a domestic subsea sector that needed high quality engineering delivered quickly and was going overseas to get it.

Proserv Australia
Acquired by Proserv, which brought access to overseas projects and to products and services the domestic market had not seen.

Blakemere
Proserv restructured globally and the Australian entity was bought out, in favour of autonomy, scale and market diversity.

Practical
We can build what we design and operate what we build. Our team understand fabrication constraints, material behaviour and what happens when something goes wrong offshore, because they have been out in the field. When a customer calls with a problem, we solve it. The satisfaction is in the close-out, not the scope definition.

When a decision is made it is executed. There is no decision-lag and no inertia of bureaucracy. You get your answer from the engineer doing the work, not from a committee, and not next week.

We cover the full path from problem to deployed solution. Wherever your asset sits, we pick the work up from there, and the solution is tested in our own testing centre before it goes offshore.

Made in Western Australia, by people we know
Machining, fabrication and coatings go to Western Australian vendors we have worked with for years, audited by us and held to the same acceptance criteria as the work we do ourselves. It keeps the money and the skills in the state, and it keeps the shop floor close enough to walk onto when a weld or a tolerance needs a decision.
What does not change is who is accountable. The interfaces between design, supply and assembly are managed internally rather than negotiated between vendors, so you have one contract, one schedule and one party to call.

Based in Perth, Western Australia, and mobilising from there to the fields. The Australian work is offshore, on the North West Shelf, in the Timor Sea and in Bass Strait. Asia-Pacific
Working With MANSAM
Some scopes need more than one specialist. Blakemere and MANSAM are working together across the Asia-Pacific market.
MANSAM is headquartered in Melbourne with a regional mobilisation base in Johor, Malaysia. The company delivers subsea trenching and burial, nearshore and intertidal construction, and the installation of subsea cables, umbilicals and flexibles, using trenching systems developed in house.
The two capabilities sit on either side of the same problem. We design, fabricate, test and deploy bespoke intervention and decommissioning tooling for scopes where standard equipment does not reach. MANSAM brings the trenching systems, the lay spread and the nearshore construction. On a campaign involving buried infrastructure, ageing assets or decommissioning obligations, the arrangement means fewer interfaces for the contractor to manage.

Behind the Name and Logo
Where did the name come from?
“Naming a business starts as a fun task, until practicality, availability, competition, online presence, possible associations and peer review turn it into a serious and arduous endeavour. You want a name with a certain ‘gravitas’, that is memorable and unique, and that will become synonymous with your brand and everything it represents.
The offshore energy industry has a fondness for classical names of ancient Greek or Latin provenance. It’s cool, but it’s not us.
Blakemere is the name of the small, quiet hamlet in the English Midlands where my father was born. On the face of it, a far cry from a fast-paced engineering company on the opposite side of the globe. Instead, it is a mark of respect and gratitude to the man who taught me so much, who cultivated and supported my curiosity in all things, and who shared his knowledge and skills. A man who I like to believe would be proud of what we do, how we do it and, in particular, how we conduct ourselves.”
The logo?
Most people see a fairly commonplace hexagonal design with a ‘B’ in it, for Blakemere. There is more to it than that.
The logo appears to be a solid, three-dimensional object that cannot actually exist in real 3D space. The 2D logo is created when two shapes sitting in 3D space are viewed from a particular angle. This ‘impossible geometry’ is the same idea as the famous Penrose Triangle. We do not claim to achieve the impossible. Some of what we do is very difficult, and the geometry says so.
