Engineering Careers in Perth

Somebody brings a problem nobody has a product for, and you engineer the answer. You draw it, you watch it get built and tested, and you may be the one on deck when it runs. Whether you are still at university or fifteen years into a career, that is the job.

What You Would Actually Work On

You find out whether you were right. We hold the whole scope, from concept and design through fabrication with our suppliers to assembly and test at Welshpool, so the thing you drew gets made and tested where you can watch it.

The work that produces that is the awkward end of subsea. A cut nobody can reach, a wellhead that will not seal, an umbilical fault that would otherwise mean a retermination. Outside subsea, automating manual handling and repairing wear in place on mining equipment, and direct air capture hardware for a chemistry that had never left the laboratory. Much of the equipment in the catalogue was designed for a scope that had no product behind it, which means the thing on your screen may not have an equivalent anywhere.

If you are starting your career

Graduates and Undergraduates

As a recent graduate or undergraduate you are on real projects from the first week, mentored by senior engineers, building skills in subsea systems, controls, hydraulics and project delivery.

The workshop and Testing and Qualification Centre are in Welshpool, a short drive from the Kewdale office. You are given a real element of a real scope and expected to form a view rather than wait to be told, with someone senior to work it through with.

You will spend time on the floor and, once you are ticketed and ready, offshore.

Experienced Engineers and Technicians

You lead technically complex work packages, shape design decisions and mentor the people coming up behind you.

The usual reason people come here from a larger organisation is scope ownership. On a team this size you carry a job from the first conversation with the client through to the thing working offshore, rather than owning one stage of it and handing over.

The work arrives non-standard by definition, because that is the work Blakemere is called for. If the interesting part of the job is the bit nobody has a procedure for yet, there is plenty of it here.

Disciplines we would always look at are mechanical and tooling design, project engineering, drafting, and offshore technicians with the tickets to match.

Values

Four Values, and What They Mean in Practice

Practical

We build what we design and operate what we build. You will not hand a drawing over and hear about it again in eight weeks. You will be at the shop when it is cut, and you will help test the result.

Agile

There is no decision-lag. Answers come from the engineer doing the work rather than a committee, which cuts both ways. You get to make the call, and you own it when the call is wrong.

Competitive

We win on merit and we take it personally when we do not. Your work is visible, it is judged on whether it worked, and nobody is going to pretend otherwise afterwards.

Exemplary

Reliability, accuracy, safety and integrity, held to when it is inconvenient. Records get written properly because a crew offshore will be working from them.

The Team You Would Join

You would work alongside engineers, technicians and project professionals who share what they know, because a scope that arrives without a product behind it is not one anybody solves on their own.

We are committed to an inclusive workplace where different perspectives are welcomed and people can be themselves. Your voice counts here, and respect is non-negotiable.

How Hiring Works Here

Blakemere hires against workload rather than to a calendar, so there is not always an advertised vacancy.

An expression of interest is read the same way as an application against a live role. Send it through the form below and it goes to our recruitment and engineering leadership. If you are shortlisted, we will contact you. What happens from there depends on the role.

The base is Perth, in Kewdale and Welshpool, so for a lot of people this is a local job. How much time you spend away from home depends on the role you come in for and on what the client campaign is doing at the time, so we do not quote a roster. Ask, and we will tell you what the role in front of you looks like.
